Book Alert / Willis Carto and the American Far Right

Willis Carto and the American Far Right by George Michael, UPress of Florida '08, $45, 336 pages, ISBN #0813031982. Index, bibliography source notes, grouping of b&w images.

Willis Carto may be one of the most influential American conservative leaders you never heard of. Famously secretive, Carto opened up to the author, an assistant professor of political science at University of Virginia's college at Wise.

The result is a biography of one of the key shapers of the far right's philosophy and strategy on such key issues as Holocaust denial, Middle East relations, globalization, multiculturalism and immigration. Just as importantly, Carto embarked on publishing ventures leading to the Institute for Historical Review, The Spotlight, and American Free Press, which brought these ideas to public attention.
