Photographer and architect Balthazar Korab left the Paris employ of Le Corbusier in 1954 to work for Eero Saarinen, launching a half-century career as a photographer. Besides the archive of 8,000 images from which the 800 images shown here are drawn, Korab also photographed the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe.
Among the structures studied in this lush retrospective are the General Motors Technical Center, the St. Louis Gateway Arch, the Miller House in Ontario, the Irwin Union Bank & Trust Company in Columbus, IN; the MIT: Kresge Auditorium and Chapel in Cambridge, MA; the Milwaukee Art Museum, the University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Arbor, the Miller House in Columbus, IN; the Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN; the University of Chicago Law School, the United States Chancellery in London, IBM's Manufacturing and Training Facility in Rochester, MN; IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Hgts, NY; Yale's David S. Ingalls Hockey Rink, the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport, the Deere & Co. HQ in Moline, IL; Yale's Morse and Stiles Colleges, the Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, VA; and the North Christian Church in Columbus, IN.
The accompanying DVD contains downloadable JPEG files of the Korab photos in this volume, which have been donated to the Library of Congress. Editor DeLong is emeritus professor of architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. Editor Peatross is curator of the Architecture, Design and Engineering Collections in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress.
